Kim Namjoon (RM) of BTS
Kim
Namjoon also known as RM (Rap Monster) is a leader of South Korean boy band BTS
(Bangtan Boys).He is the Song writer, Producer and Rapper.Kim Namjoon is born
on 12th September 1994 in Dongjak District, Seoul, South Korea.
RM learned English by watching American show
FRIENDS with his mother. He loved to write songs so in his teenage he wrote so
many poetries and upload it on online poetry website also received awards and
got attention.
After it he decided to work in songs and
expressed interest in pursuing career. Also he studied in New Zealand for four
months when he was twelve years old. When he was 11 years old he
became interested in hip-hop music when he heard Epik High's "Fly" song. He got comfort by hearing his
songs. His school teacher introduced him American singer “Eminem”. RM started to writing songs, his poetries
changed into songs when it combined with music.
In 2007, as a middle school student he
started to rapping in local amateur hip-hop
circles by singing his first self composed songs with the program Adobe
Audition. In 2008, he participated his first concert.
Kim Namjoon became so active
in underground Korean hip-hop singer under the moniker Runch Randa. He released
so many songs with other underground singers and rappers and collaborated with
famous rapper such as “Zico”
RM had IQ of 148 when he was
in school and scored in the top 1% in the university entrance examinations for language, math, foreign language and social
studies. His parents wants to from him to focus on studies because of his
academic achievements, he kept his music set aside and started to focus on
studies.
He also convinced his mother
to allow him to be a rapper by asking her if "she wanted to have a son who
was a first-place rapper, or a 5,000th-place student".
In 2009, he auditioned for
Big Deal Records, he passed the first round by rapping “Samuel Seo’s” song but failing second round because of forgetting
lyrics. After that rapper Sleepy exchanged cantact information with RM whom he
later introduced himself to Producer of Big Hit Entertainment Pdogg. Sleepy encouraged RM for audition for Big Hit Entertainment, CEO Bang Si-hyuk offered RM then aged
16, a spot at the record label, he accepted it immediately without his parents
knowledge.
Bang and Pdogg was began to
forming new hip hop boy band that become the Idol group BTS. RM trained with
other members who was a fellow rapper “Min Yoongi” and dancer “ Jung Hoseok”,
after known as Suga and Jhope. RM also worked as a song writer for a Girl Group
“Glam” to help them for debut single "Party (XXO)", a pro-LGBTQ song
, that became Billboards as "one of the most forward-thinking songs out of
a K-pop girl group.
On 13 June, 2013 RM debuted
with other members by releasing their song “2 Cool 4 School”. RM performed in
intro track to BTS on 29 August, 2013 first extended play (EP) that was
released as a trailer of EP on 11 September that was his first solo after
debuting.
